Match report:

The Chequer F.C. 5 - 1 John Henrys

The Chequer Finally managed to turn possession into goals this weekend and ended up hammering 2nd placed John Henrys. Chequer dominated the game from start to finish in what was easily our best team performance of the season. Chequer passed the ball around with aplomb and could have reached double figures.

After an early goal from Henrys was disallowed for a push on Sean Hourigan, we were never threatened until late in the game. The opener arrived on 30 minutes when we were awarded a penalty for a clear foul. Si Price stepped up and converted. He bagged his and our second with a close range finish after a neat pass from Lewis Partridge to leave us 2-0 up at half time.

Chequer continued to dominate in the second half. Tom Pickford moved into midfield, and his pace and Si Price's trickery caused Henrys back line numerous problems. With Adam Searle and Danny Gainsford winning the ball in midfield and Tom and Mark Friend-James delivering quality from the wings more goals seemed likely. A third arrived when a pin-point right wing delivery from Tom found Mark in the six yard box, and his first time right foot finish was unstoppable. Tom added a superb solo effort for the fourth, picking up the ball on the right and driving straight for the goal, he outpaced 4 Henrys players before unleashing a thunderous finish from the edge of the area.

Chequer became a little complacent after this and Henrys found some space in midfield, and twice in quick succession they poured forward in numbers and nearly scored. On the third time they broke a left wing cross evaded the Chequer back line and an arriving unmarked player had an easy close range finish to bring the score back to 4-1. Trevor Yearwood, who had replaced the impressive debutante Phil Lewis up front, twice missed easy chances to increase our lead and Mark hit the bar before Si Price scored a superb individual goal. Picking the ball up out by the corner flag he cut inside and beat 2 defenders and the keeper to complete a personal hatrick and seal the win.
